the buck garden in new jersay

Springtime River

Immersed in forsythia the sun’s brightness revealed
Kept hidden throughout the winter —
The glorious yellow is almost too bright

A pair of Canadian geese honk their
Way down the river in stark contrast
To their graceful, silent movements
Fishermen stand at intervals—the
Stage manager blocked them
for the Play

chartreuse lines sliding out
like a frog’s tongue catching flies
Arching across the rapidly flowing current
Bloated and pregnant with new life
And new fish eluding the men above.
